Main features of a music magazine front cover
From looking at many different music magazines I have made a list of what I think is the main feature on a front cover:
. Master Head - The master head is the company of the magazines logo, when looking at different music magazine the master head is very important. It is very important because I think it is what attracts the reader, and if the master head looks really good then people would think the magazine would be good too, and they would want to read the whole magazine.
When looking at different music magazines the master heads linked in with the genre of the music e.g. the teenage magazine 'Top of the Pop', they used a font which would appeal to the target audience, and when you first look at it, it looks like it suits the genre of the magazine.
. Main image - The main images on a magazine front cover mostly cover the whole page, this will appeal to the audience more than an smaller image. Also the main images use the eye contact of the artist to make the magazine more personal to the reader, also by using a main image it gives the reader a clue what the magazine is about and what it is going to include.
. Colour scheme - The colour scheme in my opinion I think is very important, the reason why I think this is because along with the main image it is what attracts the reader from other magazines on the shelf. When looking at different magazine I have found that the colours should appeal to your target audience and suit the magazine genre.
. Barcode - When looking at different magazines the barcodes on the front covers, were normally placed on the right hand corner. The reason why I think they were placed there was because the barcode wouldn't take the attention away from the main image, but still the barcode is readable and easy to find.
. Pull quote - Pull quotes are a good way to attract the reader, if the pull quote is interesting and sound like there is more to it, the reader would want to buy the magazine and read the whole interview. The pull quote would normally be placed on or next to the artist featured on the front cover of the magazine.
