Colour Swatches
These are the colour swatches that I have come up with, which I think would match well to my chosen genre.
When I was looking/analysing music magazines, I noticed that the front covers, contents pages and double page spread only used three different colours. These included black and white and one other colour, the one other colour should be a colour that would suits the target audience. By keeping the colours on the magazine simple, it doesn't overwhelm the reader and keeps the magazine look sophisticated.
I chose to stick with the main features of a magazine, so I made the decision to use the colours black, white and one other colour.
My first colour swatch I used the colour 'Purple', this represents the younger generation and would suit my magazine well, but I think that the colour would appeal to the females more than males and I wanted my magazines to appeal to both.
The second one is 'Dark Blue', this colour suits the genre I have chosen 'Indie', but the colour I think is a little bit too dark and wouldn't stand out against other magazines on the shelf.
- The dark blue colour swatch was too dark, so my next idea was a 'Lighter Blue'. This blue is vibrant, bright and goes well with the colours black and white, also this colour would appeal to my target audience (16 to 18 year olds). If I used this colour scheme I think it would stand out from other magazines.
- I experimented with different shades of blue, this blue is in-between the dark blue and the light blue. This blue in my opinion looks dull and if i used these colours in my final magazine I don't think people would warm to the magazine and it wouldn't be as popular.
- The colour 'Red' was the first colour that came into my mind when thinking of different colour scheme, although the colour is vibrant and solid, I think the colour would suit a Rock or R'n'B magazine more than a Indie one.
- My final colour swatch was a mix between pink and purple. This colour is bright, eye-catching and vibrant, and also goes well with black and white, but I think this colour is too girly, and if I picked this colour I would be taking a big risk because boys wouldn't buy it.
